.Roland – Details

This page aims to help you remove .Roland Virus Ransomware for free. Our instructions also cover how any .Roland file can be recovered. .Roland is the name of an advanced version of Ransomware that uses a strong encryption algorithm to lock users’ files in order to extract money from them through a blackmailing scheme. This is a a virus very similar to other ransomware samples like .Grovat Virus , .Grovas Virus or Veracrypt@foxmail.com .The infection can lock all the data that’s stored in the computer, typically targeting files such as audios, videos, images, databases, PDFs, archives and many more, and render it inaccessible for an indefinite period of time. The encryption process takes place in the background of the system and can rarely be detected and stopped on time, especially without a professional security program. That’s why most of the users come to know about the presence of .Roland in their computer and the effects of its attack only after it has already completed its agenda. In fact, once all the files are locked, the malware generates a scary ransom-demanding message on the computer desktop, which informs the victims about what has happened to their precious data. The notification contains instructions from the hackers behind the Ransomware and it typically gives an ultimatum: pay a certain amount of money (most commonly in BitCoins) or lost the access to the encrypted files for good. In exchange for the ransom payment, the crooks promise to send back a special decryption key which can reverse the secret encryption and make the files accessible again.

Generally, the Ransomware infections have mainly been created to force the targeted users to pay a certain amount of money to some anonymous hackers who want to make quick profit. Dealing with those kinds of computer threats can be very challenging because, not only do they lack any visible symptoms which can give them away before they have completed their encryption process but also, once the files become locked through the complex algorithm, there are almost no options of recovering them and accessing them again. In the removal guide below, however, we will offer you some steps which may help you remove .Roland from your system and maybe restore some of the encrypted files without paying a ransom to anyone. Feel free to give them a try but keep in mind that full recovery from the Ransomware’s attack may not be possible in some of the cases.

Screen of .Roland File Encryption

Risks of .Roland Virus

If you are one of the recent victims of this nasty infection and you are wondering what to do, our suggestion is not to rush with the ransom payment and instead explore the removal guide we’ve posted here. Giving money to the anonymous crooks behind .Roland is a sure way to encourage them to continue with their criminal scheme. At the same time, there is absolutely no guarantee that you will receive the unique file decryption key from them even if you fulfill all of their demands. There are many cases of people infected with Ransomware who get fooled by the hackers and who pay a ransom only to later realize that they are still unable to open any of their encrypted files. That’s why this course of action is very risky and can cost you a lot of money and nerves without any guarantee about the future of your data and your computer. If you take another approach and remove the infection from the computer, however, you may have some chance of recovering from the Ransomware’s attack. Also, your system will be safe to use and any new files that you create won’t get encrypted. Besides, you may be able to safely connect backup sources and other devices to the machine without fearing that they will get infected as well.

1: Preparations

Note: Before you go any further, we advise you to bookmark this page or have it open on a separate device such as your smartphone or another PC. Some of the steps might require you to exit your browser on this PC.

2: Task Manager

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to enter the Task Manager. Go to the Tab labeled Processes (Details for Win 8/10). Carefully look through the list of processes that are currently active on you PC.

If any of them seems shady, consumes too much RAM/CPU or has some strange description or no description at all, right-click on it, select Open File Location and delete everything there.

Also, even if you do not delete the files, be sure to stop the process by right-clicking on it and selecting End Process.

3: IP related to .Roland

Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. Open the hosts file with notepad.

Find where it says Localhost and take a look below that.

If you see any IP addresses there (below Localhost) send them to us here, in the comments since they might be coming from the .Roland.

[add_forth_banner]

4: Disable Startup programs

Re-open the Start Menu and type msconfig.

Click on the first search result. In the next window, go to the Startup tab. If you are on Win 10, it will send you to the Startup part of the task manager instead, as in the picture:

If you see any sketchy/shady looking entries in the list with an unknown manufacturer or a manufacturer name that looks suspicious as there could be a link between them and .Roland , disable those programs and select OK.

5: Registry Editor

Press Windows key + R and in the resulting window type regedit.

Now, press Ctrl + F and type the name of the virus.

Delete everything that gets found. If you are not sure about whether to delete something, do not hesitate to ask us in the comments. Keep in mind that if you delete the wrong thing, you might cause all sorts of issues to your PC.

6: Deleting potentially malicious data – .Roland

Type each of the following locations in the Windows search box and hit enter to open the locations:

%AppData%

%LocalAppData%

%ProgramData%

%WinDir%

%Temp%

Delete everything you see in Temp linked to .Roland Ransomware. About the other folders, sort their contents by date and delete only the most recent entries. As always, if you are not sure about something, write to us in the comment section.

7: .Roland Decryption

The previous steps were all aimed at removing the .Roland Ransomware from your PC. However, in order to regain access to your files, you will also need to decrypt them or restore them. For that, we have a separate article with detailed instructions on what you have to do in order to unlock your data. Here is a link to that guide.
